GER assisted the municipality of Lenzburg in identifying geothermal potential
GER’s team recently completed the first feasibility study commissioned by the municipality of Lenzburg (AG) to identify the geothermal potential of the subsurface and the energy demand across its entire territory.
With the support of SWL, the Canton of Aargau, the Hightech Zentrum Aargau and SCCER-SoE, GER characterised Lenzburg’s surface and subsurface. The study mapped the distribution of heat demand and examined all available subsurface data, from seismic surveys to well data. All of this information was compiled into a comprehensive multi-layer GIS database. That database served as the basis for a multi-criteria favourability analysis, designed specifically for source-to-sink assessments of geothermal systems.
The study helped the municipality identify promising areas for geothermal use and shape its future energy strategy in line with Swiss national climate policy.
