GER SA successfully concluded mandate for the World Bank
GER SA, together with its partners Orbis Energy Sàrl, Planeto SA and GMK, has successfully completed a project commissioned by the World Bank’s International Finance Corporation (IFC). The project developed a model for sustainable, affordable and reliable heating and cooling in Turkey, based on 5th-generation networked ground-source heat pumps (NGSHP).
In Phase 1, the team assessed feasibility and identified potential sites for a utility-scale NGSHP system serving roughly 3,000 to 30,000 homes or commercial units. The feasibility study defined the key technical and economic success factors and a set of selection criteria. It also estimated the expected system performance in Turkey and the installation costs for a district-scale network of about 10,000 to 30,000 dwelling equivalents.
The team then applied these criteria to shortlist regions, cities and neighbourhoods, and selected the best candidate for the design phase. This work was carried out in close consultation with local companies, municipalities and authorities to define viable loop routes. The resulting package has been used to procure design and construction engineering services and to secure additional funding.
