GER joins Innosuisse flagship project on thermal energy storage
GER is proud to announce that it will take part in the Innosuisse flagship project SwissSTES (Swiss Seasonal Thermal Energy Storage), alongside a consortium of academic research groups and industrial partners. The project is coordinated by ZHAW (Zurich University of Applied Sciences, based in Winterthur and brings together 6 academic partners and 12 industrial partners, with a total budget of several millions of CHF.
The project aims to develop seasonal thermal energy storage solutions and within the consortium, GER will lead two tasks:
Detailed mapping of underground structures, including caverns, quarries, galleries, tunnels and mines, to assess their potential for heat storage. aims to reduce Switzerland’s dependency on fossil fuels by pioneering seasonal thermal energy storage (STES) to become a net-zero carbon society. An interdisciplinary consortium develops and assesses novel STES technologies and proposes a systemic STES action and implementation plan.
